From August 31 to September 3, Krakow hosted this year’s Summer Drafting School in International Contract Law and Dispute Resolution – four days of discussions, workshops, and hands-on work focused on how international disputes are resolved in practice.
The program guided participants through key stages of working with international disputes – from the CISG and the fundamentals of arbitration, through arbitration agreements and the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards, to memorandum drafting, mediation, and other forms of ADR. A strong emphasis was placed on practical skills, including legal argumentation, written advocacy, negotiation, and preparation for international moot court competitions.
Maciej Durbas, partner and leader of the Arbitration Practice at KKG Legal, was closely involved in the School as both a co-organizer and lecturer. He led sessions on the fundamentals of arbitration and arbitration agreements.
The intensive academic program also had a distinctly Krakow side to it. On Wednesday, participants stepped away from the classrooms of the Jagiellonian University Faculty of Law and Administration for a guided walk through the city, sponsored by KKG Legal. It was an opportunity to experience Krakow from a different perspective, continue conversations in a more informal setting, and spend time together outside the classroom.
That combination captured the spirit of the School especially well: substantive work, an international perspective on law, and plenty of room for exchanging ideas and experiences – all in Krakow, which proved to be an excellent setting for four days of conversations about the future of international dispute resolution.
