What Determines the Success of Energy Investments Today? Takeaways from the Asian Energy Forum

Today, access to technology and components is just one factor in investment decisions in the energy sector. The origin of the technology, security of supply, project financing options, infrastructure availability, and the predictability of the regulatory environment are becoming increasingly important.

These relationships were one of the main topics at the Asian Energy Forum in Warsaw. Kamil Zawicki, managing partner at KKG Legal, moderated the panel “Energy in Practice: Industry, Construction, Mobility,” which featured Robert Maczionsek of Gaia Solar, Sylwester Dziewit from Sunmasters Sp. z o.o., and Szymon Majcher from SEGRO Poland.

KKG Legal was also represented on site by Patrycja Wysocka, Paweł Sikora and Karol Ferduła, who participated in discussions with business representatives and energy market experts.

The discussion highlighted how many factors influence the economics and the feasibility of energy projects today:

  • The origin of technology is having an increasingly strong influence on business decisions. Geopolitics, funding constraints, and the risk of supply chain disruptions mean that, in addition to price, the availability of alternatives, service, warranties, and supply security are becoming increasingly important.
  • The electrification of industry requires more than just the availability of equipment. The growing demand for energy, the expansion of renewable energy sources, energy storage, and charging infrastructure must increasingly be analyzed in conjunction with grid capacity and the actual needs of business customers.
  • Regulatory uncertainty could become a real barrier to investment. Connection terms, technical requirements, fire safety regulations, and support policies directly affect the pace of decision-making and project implementation.

In practice, the competitiveness of an energy project therefore increasingly depends not on a single technological solution, but on the skillful management of the entire investment environment—from supply and financing to infrastructure and regulations.

The special guest at the event was Frank LI Li JunKai, CEO of Orionkai. Thank you for attending and for your interesting presentation on opportunities for cooperation between Polish companies and Chinese partners in the renewable energy sector.
