On July 3–4, 2025, Hamburg hosted the international conference "Come on, it’s ESG! The Hitchhiker's Guide to the ESG Legal Galaxy", organized by the International Association of Lawyers, with the support of the German Federal Bar, the Hamburg Bar, and the German Association of Lawyers.
The event focused on the growing importance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) in both legal and business practice – from best advisory strategies to practical contractual solutions in international agreements.
During the panel "Greenwashing: ESG marketing aspects – marketing instrument vs unfair commercial practice risk," Barbara Jelonek-Jarco, PhD, partner at KKG Legal, discussed the issue of unfair commercial practices in the context of the green transition and the related regulatory risks.
The session covered regulations concerning unfair commercial practices related to the green transition, case law from civil litigation and administrative proceedings related to greenwashing and best practice recommendations for business.
The conference offered an excellent opportunity to exchange insights and reflect on the challenges and opportunities that ESG presents to lawyers and businesses around the globe.
