Krakow Mediation Salon

Conference

24 February 2016

On 24 February, the second meeting in the Krakow Mediation Salon series took place. The meeting’s subject was ‘Mediator and Counsel – Competitors or Collaborators?”. The meeting was organised by: the Dispute Resolution Section of the Allerhand Institute and the Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University. The meeting was inaugurated, among others, by Mr. Kamil Zawicki, attorney-at-law and partner at Kubas Kos Gałkowski. The guests of the Salon included mediators, counsels, judges, as well as other parties with interest in mediation as an alternative for recourse to court in terms of dispute resolution.

In the course of the meeting, it was emphasised that the role of a counsel and mediator differs depending on the type of mediation – whether family, penal, civil, or commercial. Several problematic issues were also mentioned, including mediator and counsel’s education in the scope of conducting mediation, the manner of remuneration, and mutual perception.
